Hello!

We've had SO MUCH demand for last-minute registration, and still have a bit of virtual space to offer, so to accommodate everyone who missed out on registration for SiWC at Home, we're opening registration for 24 hours. Registration will be open from noon Pacific Friday, October 16 (today!) until noon Pacific Saturday, October 17.

This is your last chance to join us. After Saturday, the only registration available will be for conference registrants who want to add master classes live on site at the virtual conference on Wednesday and Thursday. 

Pre-conference events offered by Writing Excuses kick of Saturday night and run all day from Sunday-Tuesday. We have master classes Wednesday and Thursday and then the main conference Friday to Sunday, October 23rd to 25th.

A Scholarship Donation Announcement from Board Member JJ Lee

As we put the final touches on SiWC At Home, I wanted to share some exciting news.

Simon Fraser University's The Writer's Studio is making a $4000 contribution to our Diversity Scholarship fund which offers free full conference passes to marginalized writers who would not be able to attend otherwise. (link: https://www.siwc.ca/scholarships/scholarships-for-marginalized-groups/)

This year The Writer's Studio is also collaborating with us to present two terrific workshops:

-Saturday's Both sides now: contributing to, editing, and selling the anthology with Christina Myers

The Writer's Studio (link https://www.sfu.ca/continuing-studies/programs/the-writers-studio-creative-writing-certificate/why-this-program.html) or TWS offers a one-year program that's...ONLINE!

It's designed for people with full-time obligations who also want to improve their craft and find a way to dedicate more time to their writing journey.

At the heart of the program is a year-long mentorship with a writer working in fiction, genre (YA and speculative fiction), nonfiction, or poetry. You are brought together with eight other mentees to share your works once every two-weeks in the evenings for a good part of the year. Plus there are classes in publishing, practice, and across genres (just to shake things up).

Tanya Boteju, pictured below, completed the YA/Spec Fic workshop in 2018. A year later her book, Kings, Queens and In-Betweens, was published by Simon and Schuster. TWS has supported SiWC for years and has been a vital presence at our conferences. But this year, with so many changes to the way we learn and share, I wanted to make sure to give TWS a big shoutout.
