Writers are creators. We build entire civilizations in our minds in the span of a weekday afternoon. As our manuscripts take shape we often find that we’re stuck. A character or a scene has lost the magic, the world that we’ve built that was once so inspiring is now boring and tired. How do we get back to the magic? How do we get ourselves out of a rut and back to a place where we feel engaged and inspired by our writing? One approach is to introduce new, unusual constraints to your process and learning to trust your instincts and skills to carry your work to new and unexpected places. In this session we will discuss how to use fresh external inputs as launching pads for your writing whether it’s a WIP or something entirely new. Participants will have the opportunity to “consult the deck” of Oblique Strategies cards and discuss how they might apply it to their own projects. The Oblique Strategies is a set of cards that provides suggestions for unique approaches to creative problems. It’s a cross between the I Ching, a Tarot deck, and everybody’s messy manuscript. This session will be meeting style: your camera and mic will be on unless you turn them off. Please keep your microphone muted unless you are speaking.
