Climate change is an invisible antagonist, an existential threat that writers of speculative fiction have been warning us about for decades. Its popularity in today’s fiction reaches across every genre. Many authors are using elements of the contemporary environmental crisis in their world-building. In this class, we’ll discuss the challenges of using extreme environmental conditions in your writing, and look at a few highly lauded examples of contemporary “Cli-Fi,” including sub genres that offer hope for the future. This session will be meeting style: your camera and mic will be on unless you turn them off. Please keep your microphone muted unless you are speaking.
