What makes one crime novel a thriller, another a mystery, and another suspense? If you’re writing a crime novel, where does yours fit in? In this workshop, we’ll dissects the differences among these main crime fiction genres, what makes them tick, and how to know which one you’re writing. There will be examples to illustrate the three types, exercises to see how your ideas fit into which category, and techniques for making the most of each. We’ll also look at the current market for crime fiction, and what agents and editors, readers and librarians are looking for. There is a handout for this session. Please download it from the handouts page, found on the Media menu on the header.
